Norman Lear’s death at 101 closed a chapter in television history, but for Valerie Bertinelli, it felt like losing family. The “One Day at a Time” star shared a quiet, intimate selfie with Lear, writing that he “meant the world” to her, a simple sentence carrying decades of gratitude, guidance, and love. Behind the glamour of red carpets and awards, he had been her mentor, her champion, and a steady presence in a brutal industry.
Lear’s legacy stretches across more than 100 shows, countless awards, and generations of viewers who saw their lives reflected on screen for the first time. In the days after his passing, tributes poured in from every corner of Hollywood, but Bertinelli’s grief stood out in its tenderness. Her words didn’t just honor a television icon; they revealed the quiet, personal bonds he forged, the careers he shaped, and the hearts he left forever changed.
