David Anthony Burke, artistically known as d4vd, used to sleep in a rental house in Hollywood that cost 15,000 dollars a month. Today he sleeps in an individual cell segregated from the Twin Towers Correctional Facility, the penitentiary located in the heart of Los Angeles.
He is not serving a sentence. He is in pretrial detention without the right to bail while his judicial process moves forward. The conditions, according to police sources, are deliberately restrictive. He can only shower every other day, and only on those days is he allowed to make phone calls. His recreation time is limited to three hours per week, always in isolation, without exchanging a word with other inmates. He has no access to television.
What may perhaps be most revealing is the state of his account inside the jail: it is at zero. Without money, he cannot buy any additional items and must make do with the bare minimum the institution provides. He also cannot receive visits. The same artist who used to fill stages now waits for the days to pass in a cell with no company other than silence.
