Placing a bay leaf under your pillow may sound unusual, but the tradition has deep historical roots. For centuries, people have linked this simple ritual to vivid dreams, protection, and a bit of luck or love. Today, it’s often seen as a small mindfulness practice with symbolic meaning.
Bay leaves come from the laurel tree, which was sacred in ancient Greece and Rome. Laurel wreaths were used to crown athletes and leaders, representing honor, victory, and protection. Because of these associations, the leaves were believed to carry spiritual strength and clarity, leading some traditions to place them under pillows to promote insight and peaceful sleep.
