Building a lasting career in Hollywood has never been easy, yet Sally Field has consistently pushed against the industry’s quiet expectations. Celebrated for performances in Forrest Gump, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Steel Magnolias, she’s admired not only for her acting but for openly challenging ageism and criticism about appearance. Now in her late seventies, she carries the same warmth and presence that defined her early fame. Her life has included painful chapters — she shared in her 2018 memoir that she endured sexual abuse by her stepfather, Jock Mahoney — but her breakthrough on the 1960s sitcom Gidget launched a career that evolved into acclaimed dramatic roles in Sybil and Norma Rae, the latter earning her an Academy Award. Over the years, she became especially known for portraying resilient maternal figures in films like Soapdish and Not Without My Daughter.
