We didn’t fall in love in a living room full of custody papers and forced dinners. That chapter ended long before anything real began. Years after her mother and I separated, we met again by chance, as two people with no legal, parental, or social ties left between us. The awkwardness of the past slowly gave way to conversations that were honest, vulnerable, and finally equal.
We discovered that we carried similar scars and similar hopes. The girl who once kept her distance had become a woman who challenged me, comforted me, and saw me without the weight of old roles. Our decision to marry wasn’t impulsive or hidden; it was deliberate, transparent, and fully aware of the judgment it would invite. We don’t ask for approval, only the recognition that people change, relationships evolve, and sometimes the life you build is the one no one ever imagined you’d dare to choose.
