Testimony from several teenage eyewitnesses emerged as a major development in the ongoing trial involving Karmelo Anthony, with multiple student witnesses offering accounts that contradicted his claim of self-defense.

According to journalists covering the proceedings, six teenage classmates and witnesses initially testified, including four Black students whose descriptions of the incident were largely consistent on key details.

The witnesses stated that Anthony had been asked more than ten times by multiple individuals to leave the Memorial High School team tent before the confrontation escalated. Rather than leaving, they testified, Anthony remained inside the tent and appeared to provoke a confrontation with Austin Metcalf.

A central focus of the testimony was the moment immediately before the fatal stabbing. Witnesses described Anthony pulling out a pocketknife in the same motion that Metcalf moved toward him to push him from the tent.

“It was all the same motion,” witnesses reportedly told the court, describing an event that unfolded so quickly they did not believe Metcalf had an opportunity to gain control of Anthony before the knife was used.

During questioning by prosecutors, the student witnesses consistently testified that they did not view the stabbing as an act of self-defense. They stated they did not believe Metcalf was attempting to start a fight and identified Anthony as the primary aggressor in the encounter.

The testimony represents a significant moment in the trial, as prosecutors seek to challenge Anthony’s self-defense claim. Defense attorneys are expected to continue presenting evidence and witnesses supporting their version of events.

The case remains ongoing, and the ultimate determination of guilt or innocence will be made by the jury after hearing all evidence and arguments from both sides.
