Debbie Harry, the trailblazing voice of Blondie, remains one of rock’s most influential figures and a defining face of the punk and new wave era. Born in 1945 and adopted as an infant, she moved from small-town New Jersey to New York City’s underground music scene, co-founding Blondie in 1974 with guitarist Chris Stein.
The band exploded to fame with Parallel Lines in 1978, producing hits like “Heart of Glass” and “One Way or Another,” and later made history with “Rapture,” the first rap-influenced song to top the U.S. charts. Known for blending genres and reshaping punk fashion, Harry helped turn Blondie into a cultural movement. Decades later, her influence continues to echo across music, style, and pop culture.
