Few questions quiet the heart like those asked at life’s edge: What comes after this world, and how should we honor the body when this journey ends? As cremation becomes more common in the United States, many people of faith—especially older adults—reflect on it not out of fear, but reverence and a desire to do what is right before God and family. For believers, final arrangements are more than logistics; they’re an expression of faith and stewardship. Scripture frequently shows burial—ancestors laid to rest, kings honored in tombs, and Jesus placed in one—which shaped long-standing tradition and symbolism around dignity and hope. Yet an important truth remains: the Bible presents burial as a custom, not a command. It does not forbid cremation or declare one method holy and another sinful; burial became common largely because of culture, climate, and historical practice rather than a direct spiritual requirement.
