A deadly crash in California has sparked new concerns about electric vehicle safety after a 19-year-old college student died inside a burning Tesla Cybertruck.
On November 27, 2024, the vehicle struck a retaining wall and caught fire, leaving three occupants unable to escape. One passenger survived after being pulled from the wreck moments before flames overtook it. Authorities later cited speed and impairment as contributing factors.
Families of the victims, including that of Krysta Tsukahara, argue the vehicle’s design worsened the outcome. A lawsuit claims the electronic door system failed after the crash, preventing escape, while the manual release was difficult to use in an emergency.
The case has led to legal action against Tesla and renewed debate over EV safety—especially emergency exits and fire risks—as the investigation and court proceedings continue.
