An Emirates flight from Thiruvananthapuram, India, crash-landed at Dubai International Airport on Wednesday, creating a dramatic scene that quickly drew global attention. The aircraft, carrying 282 passengers and 18 crew members, attempted an emergency landing around 12:45 p.m. after the pilot reported possible landing gear problems.
Despite the intense situation, all 300 people on board survived. Ten individuals were taken to the hospital for minor injuries and smoke inhalation, a remarkable outcome considering the scale of the incident. As the plane came to rest on the runway, flames erupted from the fuselage, turning the landing into a race against time.
Tragically, one firefighter died in the rescue operation. Authorities praised his bravery, saying his actions likely prevented a far greater loss of life. The sacrifice cast a somber note over what was otherwise considered a near-miracle survival event.
Early reports indicate that wind shear — a sudden shift in wind speed and direction — may have contributed to the failed landing attempt. Witnesses described sparks, thick smoke, and a brief but frightening moment before the aircraft touched down.
Emergency crews responded within minutes, deploying slides and guiding all passengers to safety. Their speed and coordination were credited with preventing the fire from spreading before the full evacuation was complete. A formal investigation has been launched to determine the exact chain of events.
