Passengers aboard the MV Hondius are being evacuated after a serious Hantavirus outbreak, with travelers flown home from Tenerife under strict safety measures. Crew members in full protective suits escorted passengers off the ship as countries coordinated emergency return flights and health monitoring.
Officials confirmed that at least one American passenger tested positive for hantavirus and will be transported to the Nebraska Biocontainment Unit upon returning to the U.S. While the World Health Organization says the overall public risk remains low, several countries are preparing quarantines and additional screenings for returning passengers.
