Donald Trump has left the door open to a potential 2028 run, even though the Constitution’s 22nd Amendment bars presidents from serving more than two terms. The idea has fueled speculation — including a hypothetical matchup with Barack Obama — though such a race would currently be impossible under existing law.
Trump has previously said he would “love to run,” while allies like Steve Bannon have suggested there could be ways around the amendment, without detailing how. In a thought experiment by an AI-focused YouTube channel, a fictional Trump-vs-Obama race was explored, with the AI predicting Obama would likely frame his campaign as a stabilizing counterweight to Trump’s confrontational style.
