In April 2009, a shocking incident at the Berlin Zoo drew global attention when a 32-year-old woman entered a polar bear enclosure during feeding time and was violently attacked. The woman, later identified only as Mandy K., had climbed multiple barriers before jumping into the habitat, where one of the bears mauled her repeatedly. Zoo staff acted quickly, using coordinated efforts to distract the animals and pull her to safety, ultimately saving her life. She suffered serious injuries and required extensive medical treatment. Later reports suggested she had been struggling emotionally, sparking wider conversations about mental health, personal crisis, and the critical importance of respecting safety rules around wild animals.
