On a rain-lashed stretch of the M-80 near Pelluhe, a crash cut short the life of Ivana Pino Arellano, known to many as “La Rancherita de Chanco.” A rising local artist and mother of four, she was traveling with a companion who survived with injuries, while Ivana died at the scene—an abrupt end that split life into before and after for those who loved her.
In Chanco, grief settled heavily. The town remembered her as a singer who lifted spirits onstage and off, offering warmth to neighbors and strangers alike. At her farewell in Curanipe Parish Cemetery, mourners tried to sing through tears, honoring a voice that now lives on in her songs—and in the enduring truth that even a short life can leave a lasting echo.
