He had rehearsed this moment in his mind for years, yet when she stood there—tired eyes, work-worn hands, delivery uniform damp from the rain—Tyler said nothing at first. He simply watched the person who had once pulled him out of the darkest season of his life, now carrying a different kind of weight. Only after she left did he realize this was his chance to give something back to the girl who had never asked for thanks.
When she returned days later, he was ready. He showed her the carefully kept prom photos, the ticket stub, the corsage pressed between pages. As recognition slowly lit her face, he told her how that one night had interrupted his grief, quieted the cruelty of their classmates, and convinced him his life still mattered. Their conversations stretched into hours, then weeks, until gratitude became friendship and friendship grew into love. In choosing him once, she had changed his future; in finding her again, he finally changed hers.
