A person frustrated by mysterious holes appearing in their T-shirts eventually discovered the
damage was not caused by faulty appliances or poor-quality clothing, but by everyday laundry habits.
After investigating the issue, they learned that top-loading washing machines with central agitators can sometimes cause fabric to become trapped between the agitator and drum.
During washing and spinning, the fabric may be stretched and worn down, creating small holes, especially near the bottom of shirts.
Another common cause is friction from metal accessories such as belt buckles, jean buttons, and zippers.
Repeated rubbing during wash cycles can gradually weaken fabric fibers until holes appear.
Fortunately, preventing the damage is simple. Turning clothes inside out before washing helps protect the visible side of the fabric.
Using mesh laundry bags for delicate items can reduce snagging and friction. Avoiding overloaded machines is also important, as tightly packed clothes experience greater pressure and wear.
After making these changes, the clothing damage stopped.
The experience showed that small adjustments to laundry routines can significantly extend the life of garments and prevent unnecessary wear and tear.
