Screams shattered the quiet night as a car plunged into the Pascagoula River, trapping three teenage girls inside. The current pulled hard, darkness closed in—and a 16-year-old boy was the only one close enough to act.
Before the car fully sank, Corion Evans was already in the water. Fighting the current, swallowing river water, he reached the girls as panic set in. There was no time to wait—only seconds to keep them above the surface.
One by one, he brought them to shore, refusing to give up even as exhaustion set in. When a responding officer was swept under, he went back again. Four lives were saved because, in that moment, a teenager chose courage over fear.
