Gary Leeds, the drummer and vocalist of the iconic 1960s pop group The Walker Brothers, has died at the age of 83. According to a message shared by friends on behalf of his wife, Barbara Leeds, he passed away peacefully on March 1 in Essex after suffering a stroke months earlier. Fans quickly filled social media with tributes, remembering the musician whose work helped define the dramatic, orchestral pop sound of the era.
Born in the United States, Leeds rose to international fame in the mid-1960s alongside Scott Walker and John Walker. The trio moved to London in 1965 and soon became hugely popular with hits like Make It Easy on Yourself, My Ship Is Coming In, and The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore. Though the band first split in 1968, they reunited briefly in the 1970s and scored another hit with No Regrets. Leeds, remembered as warm and grateful to his fans, is survived by his wife of 46 years, their son Michael, daughter-in-law Louise, and grandson Robert, leaving behind music that continues to resonate with generations.
