Donald Trump congratulated the U.S. men’s Olympic hockey team after their gold-medal win over Canada, but a remark he made about the women’s team quickly sparked debate. The U.S. women’s squad — also gold medalists — declined a White House invitation to attend the State of the Union, citing prior commitments.
During a call with the men’s team, Trump joked that he would “have to” invite the women as well or risk being impeached. Some critics called the comment disrespectful, while others viewed it as humor. The women’s team later said they were grateful for the invitation and appreciated the recognition of their achievement.
