Kenny Baker, best known for bringing the iconic droid R2-D2 to life in the Star Wars: A New Hope franchise, built a career defined by discipline and versatility long before his Hollywood fame. Born in Birmingham in 1934 and living with dwarfism, Baker began in circus and stage performance, earning a reputation for precision and professionalism.
His physical performance inside the R2-D2 costume helped shape one of cinema’s most recognizable characters, contributing to multiple films in the series. Colleagues credited his controlled movement and timing for giving the silent droid personality, cementing his legacy in film history.
