A late-night house fire in Mississippi killed a mother and her six children, leaving only the father alive after what authorities described as a devastating overnight blaze. The fire tore through the older wooden home before emergency crews could contain it, trapping the family inside. The youngest child was one year old.
The father was found outside with serious burns and smoke inhalation. He was hospitalized, and doctors said his injuries were consistent with attempts to reenter the burning home. Neighbors reported seeing him trying to get back inside as flames spread.
Investigators have not yet confirmed the cause of the fire. Some nearby residents suspect a possible electrical issue, but officials say the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are also examining whether security bars on the windows may have affected escape routes.
