Gavin Newsom’s latest crusade against TikTok exposes how deeply politicized the left’s concept of “free speech” has become. After TikTok struck a $14 billion deal putting Trump ally Larry Ellison in a powerful position over its U.S. operations, Democrats suddenly discovered a “crisis” of alleged censorship—because criticism of Trump might not be boosted enough for their liking. Newsom is now dragging California’s Department of Justice into a partisan probe, framing it as a legal emergency rather than an ideological tantrum.
At the same time, he recklessly accuses Trump and federal agencies of trying to “stoke a Civil War,” smearing routine immigration enforcement as white supremacy. While Trump works with Minnesota’s Democratic governor to lower crime and restore order, Newsom escalates fear, division, and conspiracy. It’s a revealing contrast: one side focused on security and results, the other on theatrics, grievance, and control over the narrative.
