Snakes go where there’s food, cover, and water. If your yard has all three, it’s inviting them in. Remove what attracts their prey by securing trash, sealing compost, and keeping birdseed and fallen fruit off the ground. Move feeders away from the house so rodents—and snakes—stay at a distance.
Keep the yard open and uncomfortable by mowing, trimming shrubs, clearing woodpiles, and eliminating standing water. Add natural deterrents like lemongrass, whose strong citrus scent repels snakes and mosquitoes. Together, these steps turn your yard from ideal habitat into a place snakes are more likely to avoid.
