President Donald Trump warned the nation would face a “complete mess” if the Supreme Court overturns his sweeping tariff policy, which he has framed as central to fixing U.S. economic problems and even funding potential $2,000 payments to Americans. In a lengthy Truth Social post, Trump argued that a ruling against the tariffs could force the U.S. to repay hundreds of billions—possibly trillions—once global investments are considered, calling the fallout nearly impossible to manage. The legal battle questions whether he can impose broad tariffs without Congress under a national emergency declaration, as his administration has done using a 1977 law, while critics cite rising prices, strained alliances, and more than 1,000 lawsuits challenging the policy.
